Grosuplje — City of Sculptures
Grosuplje is a small town 15 km south of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital. The town developed from three villages in the past 50 years, it was unrecognizable and without identity. Some years ago we proposed to the Council a project named »Grosuplje – the town of sculpture«, with which in the past 6 years the town received about 30 sculptures. Each year we organize a sculpture symposium on which sculptors from Slovenia and abroad carve sculptures from large blocs of stone. Some sculptures are made of bronze or iron. At the same time and at the same place, sculptural workshops are organized for children, youth and for older people. The results of this project are visible in the town and also on Internet (pdf map of town and sculptures), since the younger generation is presenting itself as coming from the city of sculptures.
